Non-Appearance Event Insurance
CCW Global and our Thailand Insurance Partners can sources Non-Appearance Coverage as an optional benefit within Event Insurance plans; providing protection against the loss of prepaid, non-refundable expenses if a key individual essential to the event fails to appear.
For example, if a bride does not arrive at her wedding, or a headline act is unable to perform at a concert, the event would likely need to be canceled. This could result in significant financial loss for the individual or group organizing the function.
While standard Event Cancellation Insurance covers a broad range of unforeseen disruptions, coverage for cancellations due to the non-appearance of a critical person must be added as a separate policy extension, or rider.

Non-Appearance Insurance Coverage
If a key individual fails to appear, including a Non-Appearance coverage benefit on your Thai event insurance policy will help protect the you, the organizer, from losing deposits or other non-refundable payments related to the function.
By including this optional benefit, organizers are safeguarded against the financial impact of cancellations, postponements, or abandonments caused by a vital person's absence. Coverage typically includes irrecoverable or prepaid expenses, and (if declared in advance) projected profits that would have been earned from the event.
Covered Reasons for Non-Appearance
A Non-Appearance coverage benefit protects event organizers from the financial fallout of a cancellation when a vital individual is unable to attend due to specific circumstances, including:
- Death, accidental injury, illness, or unlawful detention of the key individual
- Death of the key person’s spouse, partner, parent, or child under the age of 80
- Life-threatening illness or injury involving the vital person’s spouse, partner, parent, or child under the age of 70
- Hospitalization of the vital person’s spouse, partner, or child (under 70) for more than five working days following a life-threatening accident
It’s important to note that Non-Appearance coverage typically applies to a maximum of 8 days and covers up to 4 cancelled performances or appearances. This means the coverage cannot remain in place indefinitely and will protect you against a fixed number of missed appearances.
Medical Exam Requirement
If the total event budget exceeds US$250,000, insurers will typically require a medical examination of the vital person in order to provide a Non-Appearance coverage benefit.
This examination is generally conducted by a doctor appointed by the insurance company and is paid for by the insurer either directly, or via reimbursement.
If the organizer, or the vital person, declines the medical exam then coverage will usually be limited to non-appearance due to accidental causes only. Additionally, pre-existing medical conditions are typically excluded from Non-Appearance coverage.
Non-Appearance Coverage Exclusions
An Event Insurance policy that includes a Non-Appearance coverage benefit will typically exclude claims arising from the following causes:
- Participation in a stunt
- Participation in an air flight other than on a commercial airline
- Participation in endurance competitions
- Participation in a feat, unless declared
- “Burnout”
- Costs otherwise payable under workers compensation or employee’s compensation insurance
- Loss of voice other than as an illness
- Participation in a crime
- Use of drugs or narcotics other than those which have been prescribed by a medical professional.
