Overview

Thailand Emergency Evacuation Insurance

An International health insurance policy in Thailand which includes emergency evacuation coverage ensures you can be transported to a facility capable of providing proper care when local treatment isn’t sufficient.

While Thailand generally offers excellent medical services, the same can't be said for all countries. If you’re traveling in a region where the standard of care is low or specialized treatment isn’t available, your plan can cover a medical evacuation to the nearest appropriate hospital or center of medical excellence. These evacuations can be extremely costly, often exceeding US$150,000, and are usually out of reach for most people (even in critical situations) without insurance support.

If you travel frequently, whether for business or leisure, adding an emergency evacuation benefit to your Thailand health insurance is a practical way to safeguard your access to quality care wherever you are.

Insurance Coverage

Emergency Evacuation Coverage

Certain Thailand and International health insurance policies available through CCW, or our local insurance partners, will automatically include Emergency Evacuation as part of the core inpatient coverage. However, with other plans, this benefit is optional and can be added on top of your selected protection.

If Emergency Evacuation is important to you, be sure to let your health insurance advisor know when reviewing and comparing your Thailand medical insurance options; they will help ensure it is included in the policy you choose.

Emergency Evacuation Mechanism

If you experience a medical emergency (such as a sudden illness or serious accident) while abroad, a Thailand or international health insurance plan with Emergency Evacuation coverage ensures you can be transported to a facility capable of providing the necessary treatment.

For the evacuation to be covered, both your attending physician and the insurance provider must agree that suitable care is not available at your current location, and that an evacuation is medically necessary.

Once approved, you’ll be moved, by land, sea, or air, to the nearest appropriate facility or center of medical excellence. This could be another hospital within the same country, a neighboring country, or even your home nation, depending on your condition and where the required treatment is available.

Keep in mind, however, that evacuations are only covered when they are medically justified. Policyholders cannot request an evacuation unless it’s determined to be necessary by both the doctor and insurer.
